Teaching English

Teaching English is a great way to get involved and share conversation and language with asylum seekers and refugees in the community.

As people who’ve recently arrived in Australia, many are native speakers of languages other than English, and learning the language really helps to close the communication gap and help asylum seekers and refugees feel more connected in our community.

For many English programs, you don’t need to be qualified in a TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) course. There are some quick crash courses run by community organisations to help you learn how to teach basic English.

Check out who’s doing what to see who offers English courses as part of their work.
